Loket Castle

At the beginning of the 13th century, the Royal Loket Castle was built and called "the key to the Kingdom of Bohemia". In the castle museum, you can see an exhibition of weapons and archaeology. There are crypts in the underground of the castle, as an authentic demonstration of torture. A small town emerged at the castle soon after it had been built, first mentioned in 1288. During the 19th century, the town became famous mostly due to the local porcelain plant.

There is a natural amphitheatre in the area of the castle settlement where various cultural events are held – theatre and opera plays, concerts and parties.

The town of Loket, located in the Slavkovský les Protected Landscape Area, is surrounded by beautiful nature and therefore is the starting point of several marked tourist trails. The most popular trail will take you from Loket through the valley of the Ohře (Eger) River, past the Svatoš Rocks (Svatošské skály), a protected granite formation, and all the way to Karlovy Vary. In Loket, you can visit one of the water sport rentals and go down the deep river canyon on a canoe or a raft.
